About my first post-Paper Boat was written in 2008. It was just after my 12th exam. It is about career decisions and how doing what you are not made for can go so wrong.
PAPER BOAT
The sun shied behind a cloud,
As the earth prepared for a shower.
Wind fluttered carrying the scent,
Of the Living Earth and Scented Flower.
He was splashing his way home,
Right beside his new found friend –
A spirited and swift fellow -
A running stream, which had no end.
He stopped right in a puddle,
From his pocket drew out a shabby page,
With nimble fingers crafted a boat
And beamed with joy at the trademark of his age.
The ship set out on its voyage,
Navigating through the turbulent sea,
But little did its maker know
That it was there where it was not meant to be!
It did display a promising start,
Gliding on the swift muddy stream,
But soon the soggy paper despaired,
Drowned the boat, drowned his dream.
Page, in a book is meant to be,
Never in a stream, even for others’ joy,
For it’s your Future your crafting,
Don’t mistake it for a paper boat toy.
Yes,back in 2008 I followed rhyme :)
ReplyDeleteNice! I love your poems! :D
ReplyDeletenice poem... :)
ReplyDeletebeautiful!
ReplyDeletewhen i write poems, even till date, i prefer when it rhymes!

more to follow i hope!
profound!
ReplyDeletecant think of any other word to describe it. The analogies are very well-crafted.
I'm normally as much into poems as the pope is into rap music, but damn it, this poem made me think!
waiting for the next one!
As you must be knowing I am a person who is millions of light years away from LITERATURE...forget about Poems.
ReplyDeleteBut something made me read this poem twice (I DID understand it for the first time).
And yes I am also waiting for next one...
swati,bimal,puri,aditya,lalit...thanks a lot you guys. Yes,Ill be writing more soon.
ReplyDeleteWaah, waah! Good thing you have a blog now - just make sure that don't give up on it.
ReplyDeletePS. Verification at such an early stage? I don't know if it's such a good idea.
@kaushik:I remember telling u once how its a very rare possibility that i will one day blog.
ReplyDeletehaah me.
Hey Anaisha,
ReplyDeletevery well written poem. I love the rhythm you've maintained in the poem. I sensed a feeling of lost hope towards the end of the poem at the way one has to treat one's life. Life is whatever you make of it: one day a paper boat, another day the canvas for the imagination of a poet like yourself! Both bring great to all who experience it.
Great to see you have good set of followers reading into your blogs like Jaadu (Kaushik). And he's got it spot on; Don't give up on blogging!
Hahahh! @Aditya's comment that led my mind to picture the Pope rapping. bling and everything.
ReplyDeletenice poem. 2008 huh?
