Silent Night

Watch the video below and listen to the sound of katydids (type of cricket) #1.

https://youtu.be/BYRPzsrguS4

Imagine having to listen to their chant throughout the night, so loud that it keeps you frustratingly awake all night.

Silent Night

Is it a bird, is it a plane?

A cricket? A $*@$#ing pain

When you can't see

The wondrous biology

Of creatures and forests galore

For in the darkness

I'd rather starkness

To lend the silence a snore

Hold my drink, my rosy glass

That glamorize the brook and grass

The poetic gurgling

That turns to clenching

When I'm losing sleep by the hour

For in the darkness

I'd rather starkness

Damn it, mute the twinkle star

Blue light, white noise

My phone, redeeming choice

Far too removed

And city brewed

To enjoy hilltop nights

For in the darkness

I'd rather starkness

Than the chorus of nocturnal rites

Sorghum Field

Grain flower,
Bread flour,
Food for the common man.

For the land's plougher
And beast's fodder
Daily millet and bran

BLACK

Before He spoke the word
of Light
I stood,King of the universe
And all was under spell
Of stillness,of shadow unknown.
The war cries began with sparks
Far into the distant black.
Now gray,now pale,now gold
Burst forth the new King's flaming crown.

I stood while my kingdom shrunk
a day etched into my despaired mind.

No king no more
no regal clout retained.
I wander now in the streets
Seen by those who cannot see.

Sheltered in the minds
within whom
the flame of fear works
To char to death a day.
A Friday?Black perhaps.

Yet,I come again
To protest the same terror
Now my flag,held high
by youth.
The streets protest.
Black they wear and hold
the candle light.
Light.Black.
Yin.Yang-
The fiercest rivals
On the same page.
For and against
the same cause.
Creator and destroyer
of the same theme.

In every story I am
the antagonist.
I must be overcome by Light
they say,and celebrate
a festival to my defeat.
Hear my plaintive cry:
Ask those scorched under the sun-
Within whose soothing shadow
they hope to rest?
The little seed must
grow in the black womb
of the Earth
before Light dare touch it.
Ask those blinded by the light
and wearied by the day-
Whom do they wish to see
when eyes close
and sleep beckons?
I wait in the shadows
for an answer
while it dawns on you.

Colour burst.

It's been at the back of my mind
that craving for colour-lust.
Eventually I do make some time
for bottles of paint, layered with dust.

Come summers in the city of gold,
The sun scorching the river's flow
And in the midst of sweltering heat
I find my first:some dazzling yellow.

The laburnum tree in sunshine galore
Lets down its golden hair
It lends to my palette some radiant gold
Driving away all gloomy despair.

The quintessence of scarlet red I seek.
All trails lead to the Middle East,
Where the land's people revolt,protest,
Thirst for the red of the oppressive beast.

Clad in orange,the demi god
Silently passes,beyond mortal land
The air heavy , solemn , gray
While men gather like weeping sand.

Irony is, when I need I will not find
The colour which connects seas, and royal hue
For when I'm back at my easel again
I'm miles and miles from feeling 'blue'.

Bored..zzzzz.

Absolute space,
blank thoughtlessness
is a state of mind that
they at my yoga class,
some summers ago,
said, was the ultimate aim.

And yet,
they would know,
who didn't have a class to attend,
idle in slothful time.

Luxury, is when you have enough
to lavishly spend,
and more to un-spend,of what-not
and time,
so says the speech bubble
of that orange cat,
black stripes,on the window sill.
He may be lying,
down stairs his master waits
to be walked.

I bask now,
enjoying the opulence of boredom
and the fox tells you
how lovely the chicken is
when all he really wanted
were sour grapes.

Green with anger

I love the colour green.I try to be green. No I'm not suffering from pangs of monstrous jealousy, neither has the bumpy,pot-holed bus ride to college made me sick. Not yet.But it's what the colour represents, the outdoors, trees, our environment and us in healthy symbiosis that I love.
My batch is the second batch . to have an additional subject E.V.S in our Engg.syllabus.
AND I HATE IT.
No I wasn't lying in lines 1,2,3,4.But why I loathe it so much requires some explanation.
1)Water pollution
2)Green house effect
3)Global warming
The crux of our EVS syllabus.
The 3rd std,4th std,5th std,6th std, 7th std,8th std,9th std,10th std,11th std,12th std..T.E....Been there done that .First I thought there possibly couldn't be any thing left to know more about in these three corner-stones of our syllabus but finally after studying the same thing for the 11th (!) time I found out a new thing.I found out why the majority of people everywhere are apathetic towards the environment. It is because our environment along with ourselves has turned out be nothing more than a bookish theory. We stretch our hand only far enough to earn marks/points/grades/money ,the whole world be choking dead or not.

1)So you ask me about the Green house effect ,I'll study and write only about the green house effect.10 marks more than you loser!
2)So I plant trees,have a farm on FB farmville.
YAY!I have more points than you.
3)Yes ma'am ,plastic must be banned.
'A' grade \m/
4)This is why carbon credit exists in the first place.

And while even the tiniest fondness for green is crushed and stifled in our stagnant
classrooms,we continue to "learn" why plants are helpful to us and how the definition of food-chain has evolved to mean the line along which the box of banana chips is passed during the EVS lecture.
The Panvel airport continues to battle mangroves.
The Gulf of Mexico is crying over spilt oil.
Mumbai drowns in flood every year.
Your mobile phone manufacturer is now recycling electronics.
Drop-dry buildings are discovering the bliss of rain water harvesting.
Someone somewhere is trying to save tigers from extinction.
And they need you to be aware and respond.
But don't bother. It's not in our syllabus.

FIrst day of T.E.

The situation:
Monday,19th July.Vacation just over. yawn....zzz.
RFCD practicals in the communication lab.30 mins over and still no faculty member has come.
On the other side of the world batch 3 has drifted way off into the depths of EHW study with Harsola(is this how its spelt?) sir . I reluctantly turn down an offer from Ruchita to a game of Bollywood, and I start writing. Here goes:

1st day,1st show.
Meeting friends of the yester-sem.
Divided we are now,
separated by glass walls
and subjects.

Here we wait
with empty books
and empty minds
going over holidays
and over they are.
5th chance to start anew.
